Take-Two’s Cost-Cutting Craze: Layoffs and Cancelled Projects

Rockstar Games' parent company, slims down again.
In yet another layoff news… sigh, Take-Two Interactive has announced a “cost-cutting” program.

Don’t bother with the PDF, because it contains language and phrasing that can be difficult to parse. I’ve focused on getting the essential information on the layoffs themselves.

This means approximately 580 employees will lose their jobs by the end of the year.

But wait, there’s more: the company is also cancelling projects.

These two ‘actions’ aim to achieve $165M+ in annual cost savings. Good for them!

This marks the third such “cost-reduction” initiative since February 2023 for Take-Two. Perhaps they should invest in a better financial strategy instead?

Industry Response

We will try to avoid just announcing whatever beautifully written content the marketing department of huge companies sends when actually, behind those words we recognize ‘downsizing’, or ‘project canceling’. Instead we will focus on the gaming community or industry response as a whole.

In this case sarcastic jokes are pouring in on twitter, delightful:
