Hasbro is Already Planning the Next Baldur’s Gate (And They Hope It Won’t Take 25 Years)

Larian Studios has received every GOTY award for Baldur’s Gate 3, and their success continued with five impressive wins at the BAFTA Games Awards 2024

While Larian stepped away from the franchise and D&D in general, Hasbro certainly hasn’t. Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast are looking to continue expanding the world of D&D through video games.

Hasbro’s senior vice president of digital strategy and licensing, Eugene Evans, revealed to PC Gamer that discussions have already begun on what the future holds for the Baldur’s Gate series.

We’re now talking to lots of partners and being approached by a lot of partners who are embracing the challenge of, what does the future of the Baldur’s Gate franchise look like?

Evans said:

So we certainly hope that it’s not another 25 years, as it was from Baldur’s Gate 2 to 3, before we answer that.

He also added:

But we’re going to take our time and find the right partner, the right approach, and the right product that could represent the future of Baldur’s Gate. We take that very, very seriously, as we do with all of our decisions around our portfolio. We don’t rush into decisions as to who to partner with on products or what products we should be considering.

Since Hasbro owns the rights to everyone’s favorite BG3 companions, from Gale to Astarion, there’s a good chance we might see them pop up in future products.

One thing’s for sure: fun times ahead with Baldur’s Gate 4 confirmed.
But I cannot help it but wonder, will the new game have the same focus on story, characters, or level of polish we were spoiled by Larian? Time will certainly tell.
