Let’s Play Raft: Text & Cinematic Texture – Grinding Away (Episode 2)

Continuing from where I left off with the ‘Let’s Play Text And Cinematic Texture” series for Raft on PC. See Episode 1.

So... Where Were We?

Ah yes, underwater farming! This is one of the best ways to progress and gather the materials needed to craft new tools. And what’s even better than this? Farming beneath a large island!

And here we are, back in the game. I’ve collected so much seaweed, sand, dirt, and precious metals that I’m feeling confident I can relax a bit. Just kidding, and even though this is grinding, it feels relaxing.

As I write this, everything seems fast-paced, but in reality, this takes a lot of time. For example, this article reflects more than 5 hours of gameplay, though it feels a bit condensed. Maybe I’ll start documenting it in video, or maybe I won’t.

The Time Has Come... To Take Care Of My Raft

Island hopping needs to come to an end, at least for a while.

My primary concerns, hunger and thirst, are finally addressed. Just like in real life, you have to work a bit to ensure that bottom of the pyramid is solved, especially these two. Now with belly full, I can start thinking what to do next.

I’ve gathered enough basic resources (wood, palm leaves, plastic), and now my focus shifts to the raft itself.

From baked potatoes to potato and onion stews, this actually sounds delicious. In real life, give me a potato, and I can make at least 10 different meals from it. Also, in this game stews are the best, giving some extra time until hunger is an issue. Not to mention they are very easy to farm.

The raft is starting to feel like home. I’ve secured its bottom floor against the shark and added two more levels. There are so much to add, and my goal in the near future is to make paint, and give this raft some nice (but realistic) colors. I’m not playing in the VR, but let me tell you, immersion is pretty high.

Without wanting to be influenced by the internet, I’m trying to create a nice-looking raft, but I suspect it will take a while to finalize the design. In creative mode, it’s easier to go ham, but here I want to strike a balance between making a functional raft, adding a touch of design, and not spending all my game time farming for it.

I’m not sure if that makes sense, but in my head, it totally does!

What Next?

I could move forward with the game, but that’s the beauty of this sandbox experience, I don’t have to rush.

What I do want right now to explore the terrain of a large island. This time with better gear than before, I’m confident that nothing will touch me.  And the next island, and the next.

A Plan Forward

Preparing for the first mission. Collecting metal is now my primary objective. I have finally built a smelter, and now the possibilities for crafting have expanded even further.

Not only can I create new weapons, but also find new ways to decorate. Still maintaining that balance, I don’t want to just farm or grind mindlessly, but right now, I feel the need to mine metals and gather scrap.

I’m already more than prepared for the first mission, but that’s not the goal for now. It’s all about mindless exploration at my own pace. Something is keeping me away from the first mission. I can sense it lurking, but it’s still a bit distant. Today is not the day.

And another podcast is over.
